Additional Ratings
We offer various additional ratings that pilots can complete to expand their capabilities and the type of conditions they are able to fly in. To take any of these ratings, the individual must hold a valid Private Pilot License.
Multi-Engine Rating
This rating allows pilots to fly aircraft with more than one engine. There is no written test and is based on pilot proficiency. Check out Transport Canada for more information.

Mountain Check-Out
Mountain flying can be exhilarating, but it also brings the need for extra caution. Before flying out to the mountains, book a ground briefing with an Instructor to go over all the important aspects of flying around the Rockies.
Additionally, the CFC requires you to book a 1-hour session in the simulator and up to 4 hours of flying time with an instructor. These sessions will ensure that you have all the necessary knowledge to keep you and your passengers safe.

Night Rating
This rating allows pilots with their Private License to fly at night. The Night Rating requires a minimum of 15 hours flight time, some of which can be completed during the CPL training. There is no exam for this rating.

Tailwheel Check Out
Tailwheel flying is a great way to continue developing your flying skills after you get your PPL license, or even as part of your commercial training. It will instill great habits in the use of rudder and teach you to be straight and aligned with the centerline on takeoffs and landings. A great challenge when you feel like you have mastered the mighty Cessna 172.
There is no Transport Canada minimum requirement for a Tailwheel Check Out. To feel competent and fully prepared for solo Tailwheel flying, students typically require 15 – 25 hours of dual instruction and can expect to spend approximately $5,000.00.

Rusty Wings
The Rusty Wings Check Out was designed to get individuals flying again after a significant amount of time away from flying. As per the CARS 421.05, any pilot who has not acted as Pilot In Command in the prior five years must undergo a flight review with a licensed flight instructor. The amount of time required to build skills to be ready for the COT flight will vary. Standard dual instruction rates will apply.
The COT Form can be reviewed HERE.
Planning For Additional Ratings
These costs are based on Transport Canada and Calgary Flying Club minimums and may not reflect the exact amount that will be required to feel prepared to take examinations.
