Also mark your calendars for February 23 17:30 PM for a Dream Destinations discussion and group trip planning for a spring fly-out. Pina Coladas and Margaritas to set the mood for a trip to warmer climates.  The last Friday of each month is our Members/Guests/CFC Friends Pub Nite.

Rates and Winter Flying – As previously announced CFC rates for aircraft, instructors and fuel will be going up February 1, 2018 to reflect increases in CFC costs.  To mitigate these costs increases and  to incent our rental pilots to get some winter flying under their wings we are offering a special weekend rate for Cessna C-172s.  To qualify for this Winter01 promotion, a minimum five(5) hours must be purchased in advance and be paid by cheque or debit at the promo rate of $142 per hour.  All hours purchased must be used by April 30, 2018 and are non-refundable.

CFC is also working with our bank to offer payment methods that can decrease post-flight queues during peak times at Dispatch. Authorizing CFC to charge for costs of a flight will reduce wait times and improve service.   After February 1, CFC will also be offering some incentives for use of pre-authorized debits, cash payments, chaeques and  balances on account.

Special Instructor Rating Ground School – CFC is working with senior instructor, Lenora Crane to provide a full-time Instructor Rating Ground School (30+Hours; 7 classes) commencing April 3, 2018  Noon to 16:00 every other day;  Attending this ground school will significantly reduce the typical hours for ground briefing with a Class 1 instructor, one-on-one. A Commercial Pilot’s License and a CFC admission letter is a pre-requisite for the very limited spaces in this special ground school.  If you wish to be considered for an instructor rating and employment at CFC, please contact CFC’s Chief Flight Instructor at CFI@calgaryflyingclub.com  prior to March 1, 2018.  CFC is also encouraging retired pilots, veterans and pilots interested in teaching to talk to the CFI about helping the next generation of aviation professionals.

Member Flying – The next Saturday Sortie will be headed  to Rocky Mountain House CYRM  on January 27th.  Meet upstairs at 09:00 for 10:00 wheels up.  All pilots and passengers welcome.   First to arrive will marshall the crew car for a trip to town for lunch.

Beyond the PPL – Private and recreational pilots can also benefit from engaging in group learning and training opportunities.  CFC is committing resources to building meaningful ground school and flying opportunities to qualified pilots to stay proficient, experience new flying opportunities and enjoy safe flying.  Watch for more announcements and program sign-ups this spring.

Commercial Ground School – 26 Students are energetically  participating in the 80+ hours of commercial ground school.  Bill Bulek is leading a spirited look at all things required for the commercial licensing and safer flying.   CFC is planning another Commercial Ground School for September 2018.  If you are thinking about taking up your private flying a few knotches or pursuing a career in aviation, start planning to participate in CFC advanced training opportunities and get on the admission list at Dispatch.

Webmaster Appointment –  Marilyn Ledingham will be helping CFC periodically to re-fresh the CFC web presence.  If you have any suggestions for our Web page or social media.  Better yet, if you have content please share on-line or forward to manager@calgaryflyingclub.com

Shared Ownership Aircraft – Our Cirrus SR-20 is a great and comfortable flying machine, especially for cross-country missions.  1/6 ownership opportunities are still available.  CFC is also investigating adding a second Twin: Piper Seneca or Beechcraft Baron  with flight into known icing capabilities and good avionics.  CFC is looking for members interested in having a 1/8 ownership interest in a capable twin.  Training revenues can  support maintenance and fixed costs when not used by the ownership group. line Let us know your interest at  manager@calgaryflyingclub.com
